College Decisions

So. Do you know how difficult it is to expect something, then to have to face a reality check so vicious that it knocks the wind out of you? Let me tell you this right now -- it sucks. But everything is ok now, and I'm ready for the future. And even a little bit...excited? Let this be the first place where I say this: I will be attending Fordham University in the Bronx come September. No, it was not my first choice, but no one can have everything that they want all the time...and I am really excited to be going to New York. My cousin Kristen will be going there, too, except she's going to the Manhattan campus. I love New York. Oh, and my next review should be in the Post-Dispatch either tomorrow or on Saturday, so keep a look-out. Tootles.

The Joys of DDR

If I was only given one thing to amuse me for the rest of my life, I would want it to be watching my mother play Dance Dance Revolution. It's not what you think, really...she's actually really coordinated, and she likes dancing...but whenever she misses a step, she screams like a girl, really loudly, and she pushes me and Nikki when we try to show her how to do it. Plus, she insists on always doing whatever the little character on the screen does, from bouncing to wacky arm movements. It is probably the funniest thing in the whole world.

Warning: Nice Guys Approaching

This is not really directed at anyone specific, but more to the male population as a whole. I've heard countless guys complain (loudly, and usually in whiny, pseudo-depressed, "woe-is-me" voices) about how girls never fall for nice guys. I understand the occasional comment about a specific girl who broke that fellow's heart for an overly-pierced, mannerless male-bimbo - but that is where it should stop. I have messages for those "nice guys" who always claim that they "finish last."
GROW the heLL up.
According to a general survey of over 100 randomly chosen girls and guys, the self-proclaimed "nice guys" are just as likely to:
1. Attempt to feel up a girl during the first few dates
2. Watch television while you kiss
3. Pressure girls to go further than they'd wish to, but in a more sneaky way - they bring it up constantly, if casually, so that if the heavy pressure isn't there, the constant referrals are enough to equate to them
4. Think that when girls get angry, it's because of PMS (not like girls have actual feelings, or anything)
5. Constantly broadcast if another girl hits on them at all (must be a big occasion)
6. Play mind games when it comes to just about anything
7. Flirt, flirt, flirt
So...do those guys still wonder why girls choose the "bad boys" over them? At least in that area, girls know what to expect - they pay for themselves from the beginning, they know that cheating is a possibility, they don't expect flowers or poems or presents. They anticipate the heartbreak, so that they bounce back up so quickly that it doesn't even seem like a big deal. When it comes to the "nice guys," the potential for heartbreak is just as great, but girls are lulled into a sense of trust, a sense of love. And those heartbreaks actually have an impact greater than the pound or so gained from eating an entire quart of Ben and Jerry's.
My point is that those boys who continuously whine about how girls never go for nice guys...well, in general, they are kind of pathetic. And not nearly as nice as one would think. Sometimes, not even nice at all. They should all be made to wear a label that reads: "WARNING! Nice guy approaching."
Of course, there are true nice guys in the world, and those above give them a bad name. These boys, though, don't go around talking about how nice and sweet and thoughtful they are. They actually act nice and sweet and thoughtful. They carry books and open doors and listen. And it is these boys who deserve to have the girls' respect, and their attention, and their hearts.
Sorry for my harsh way of writing, but I have a low tolerance level for patheticness.

Cappies = Love

Here is my newest article - it just came out in the Post-Dispatch! I am really excited, even though it got cut really short. But that happens. I'm just happy to be getting some bylines. Journalism school, here I come...
Just click on the title Cappies = Love to access the article.

Pie Day

Or pi day. Whichever end of the specific spectrum you fall under. 3-14. That means more than just pi day, though; it means forever and ever and ever until I find out about college decisions. They actually send out decisions in the first few weeks of next month - meaning April - and I'm dying here. Everyone else knows where they're going to college, and it's driving me insane. I don't even know which side of the country I'll be on come August. Eh.
Hey, does anyone remember that one time when my review of Holt High School's production of Little Women was chosen to be published in the Saint Louis Post Dispatch? Oh wait...was that today? I think it was! Look for it in the next few weeks in the entertainment section. I am majorly excited...the Cappies is such a good way to get bylines in the newspaper, and I'm so happy that this is my second one....*smiles*
Yeah writing...
